Inclusive Education for Children with Special Needs

It should be free and fair, with equal access for girls and boys. Children with disabilities and children who have to work to help their families make ends meet are also blocked from the basic skills that could lift them from a lifetime of poverty and hardship. Inclusive Education is an approach that into how to transform education system in order to respond to the diversity of learners. It aims to enable both teachers and learners to feel comfortable with diversity and to see it as a challenge and enrichment in the learning environment, rather than a problem. Today inclusive education has been an increasing recognition as the better way of meeting the Educational, developmental and emotional needs and rights of children with disabilities when they learn and grow with their peers in regular school environment. Samartha Trust has been involved for the past two years in developing inclusive practice at grassroots level. Children with disability are placed in regular schools and a close follow –up is maintained to map their progressing
AIM
- To ensure children with disabilities have equal access to Inclusive Education and enjoy the learning.
Key Activity
- Conduct survey to identify the children
- Conduct orientation meeting with parents
- Refer to Institutions for detail assessments for understanding the rehabilitation needs
- Facilitate or support to access appropriate aids and appliances
- Provide training for the parents on preparing nutritional diet, health and hygiene
- Provide training for the parents on simple therapy skills
- Conduct experts consultation workshop to develop teaching curriculum
- Develop the session plan based on the curriculum
- Once the child is capable of copping with mainstream education, the child is been enrolled in the regular school
- Provide technical support in making the school physical environment barrier free
